An original Civil War CDV photo of a young man in civilian coat, the reverse has a stamped imprint in purple ink First Iowa Infantry A. The CDV is pencil identified on reverse "AW Pinney Company B".

Comes w service info- Pinney, an Iowa City native who enlisted with the 1st iowa "First Defenders" may 1861 and fought at the battle of Wilson's Creek where the 1st Iowa took heavy losses with 150 killed and wounded. Pinney survived and served 1863-64 with F Company, 22nd Iowa Infantry, but was killed in action along with many of his comrades at the Battle of Winchester, Virginia.
