Scarce Civil War Matched Set of "Folding Candlesticks". Nice matched pair of "folding or "travelling candlesticks. Commonly used during the Civil War by both soldiers and officers alike.
Made so the candle cups unscrew and fit inside the 2 "donuts" when they are screwed together. Makes it easy to carry and transport. Sometimes 2 soldiers would share the cost of pair to simplify carrying them. You can picture a soldier sitting in a tent writing a letter home by the light of these; or an officer sitting at a desk doing paperwork by them.Made of thin brass Measures about 3 diameter and 1 tall when screwed together. When unscrewed, each stands about 1 3/4 tall. In nice condition, except for a little strip of brass along the edge of one of the donuts that is missing (shown). These have a nice aged appearance and patina. This is a very scarce item to find these days, and are a GREAT addition to a collection of Civil War soldiers personal or camp items. Hard enough to find a single one, but extremely difficult to find the matched set anymore!
