We are a small family business who works closely with 38 professional art, antique, and collectible pickers, located in ten states between maine and virginia. Every day we list up to 30 unique, rare, and unusual items from ancient antiquities to mid 20th century collectibles. Thank you & happy ebaying from all of us at riics inc. The centerpiece of this lot is a 3 ¼" by 4 ¼", half-plate tintype of a union soldier and his springfield rifle & bayonet.
Here is what i can deduce from the other photographs, eddie l. Reed's hand written diploma from the harwick academy in vermont and a small diary that was written by the soldier's young daughter, bertie. She mentions mamma & papa and grandma, but no names.... When i look at the nose, eyes and mouth of the smaller 2" by 2 3/8" ambrotype, i can see the same features as the soldier and i'm sure the ambro was taken just before he went to war.
The two large 6 ½" by 8 ½" tintypes depict his son eddie l reed and come in matching 10" by 13" oval frames. Eddie l, reed is the same name that is on the 1888 diploma. In the small diary, there are entries from january 1, 1872 dell gave this diary to me. I hope we will be alive and well in a year from now. , to february 8, i can't think of anything to write today. After reading most of the entries i can tell this diary was written by eddie's sister betrice reed. There are a couple of added entries later on, included a death notice.... I searched for a short time on google, trying to identify the solider with the information found in the lot, but no luck.
