Civil War CDV Confederate Bushwacker or Trans- Mississippi Soldier

CDV of an older Gentleman dressed in fine clothing wearing Military equipment named Nelson Fulton. He has a rifle, cap box, union cavalryman or officers belt plate and holstered colt on his hip.

Shown holding a large Bowie knife also. I cannot find anyone with the name of Nelson Fulton listed for the Confederate army. There are two such people listed in the Union Army, both from Indiana. One Nelson G Fulton, no age shown was a private in the 22nd Indiana Vols from 8/61 till he was killed at Rome Ga.

The second was Nelson H Fulton who served with the 22nd Indiana Vols, the 2nd MN LA and later the VRC, he was listed as being 23 years old at enlistment, clearly not this older gentleman. Could the image be his father who served in the 22nd, possibly. But I cannot believe the Union Army would allow him to dress in fine civilian clothing and wearing an officers pistol as being a private?

Many confederates in the West wore captured Union Equipment while wearing civilian clothing and I believe this to be one of them. The look and style feel right and records for Trans- Mississippi soldiers are weak so its not surprising if he was one who served there. Anyways, a great image with a great look to this clearly dangerous individual.
