An original Civil War letter from Mary Bishop Graves , Racine (Wisconsin) Jan 29, 1865 to her Brother Isaac Bishop serving with the 55th Illinois Volunteers. She sends family news and wishes he were here to take her sleigh riding as she is now married and home with little 3 year old "Minnie". 3pp ink, 8 x 5. Comes w postal cover addressed to Mr Isaac F Bishop Clerk Ordnance Dept Nashville, Tenn.

W stamp & Racine, Wisconsin cancellation. From the papers of Bishop, noted Racine, Wisconsin vet who saw lots of combat, also served as the Ordnance NCO at Nashville, retrieving the 1000s of weapons left after the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee & as Wisconsin State Representative & veteran of Vicksburg, personally dedicated the Wisconsin Monument at Vicksburg. Isaac served 3 years in the 55th Illinois Volunteers.
