Lot of Seven Gem Tintypes. This grouping of seven mounted gem tintypes is from a collectors estate. They were accumulated as a collection.

They likely did not come from the same original source or family. One or a few might not be. They are tiny gem tintypes that have been mounted. The cardboard portions measure in the area of 2-3/8 x 4. The actual tintypes are approximately 1 tall with the viewable areas being smaller, around 3/4 from top to bottom.

Three have photographer labels on the back. Hacker of Providence, Rhode Island; Cole & Lothrop on 102 W. And The New Gem Gallery of Alexandria, Virginia. The front of one card is marked along the bottom edge: Field Artist, 112 W. There is a card with a blank back that has a faint pencil writing of Clarksburg, Virginia. The card with the weird 97-443 numbers written on back also has a homemade piece of material on the back holding the tintype to the card (this looks to be a same era repair of sort). This tintype is offset, resting higher than it should be (space showing along bottom edge). This is actually a rather good looking photograph, but when you tilt the tintype back and forth under a light, you can recognize blistering and whatnot to the surface. The tintype with the Cole & Lothrop label on back is in terrible condition. This tintype has an absolutely awful amount of rusting and crackling. Its certainly the worst condition tintype in this grouping. Its in such poor condition that I almost threw it away. And now that I look at him, I dont even think its a soldier. The other tintypes vary some in condition and overall quality. Theres dullness, scratching, and crudeness.

With exception to the one tintype that is clearly in awful condition, I think these other six look pretty good, but they do show their age and whatnot. All of the cards have a truly nasty amount of darkening, discoloration and overall related wear. There is also heavy corner and edge wear, along with some warping and waviness. I have a second grouping of antique photos (more soldiers) from the same estate collection listed this week, so you may want to check them out as well.

All you have to do is send the item(s) back to me in the same condition as it was sent to you. International Buyers - Please Note.

I cannot mark international orders as a gift, nor can I lie about the value of the package.
