Corn Cob Pipe Used By A Soldier With The 20th Maine Gettysburg CIVIL War
THIS PIPE WAS USED BY A SERGEANT WHO WAS A MEMBER OF THE 20TH MAINE, DEFENDERS OF LITTLE ROUND TOP. HE CARRIED THIS WITH HIM AS HE FOUGHT AT GETTYSBURG AND OTHER BATTLES WITH THE 20Th. I ACQUIRED THE PIPE AND SOME OTHER ITEMS FROM A DESCENDANT OF THE SOLDIER IN 1975. IT HAD BEEN IN THE FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS! THE PIPE MEASURES 5 1/4. THE TIP IS MADE OF BONE. A DETAILED LETTER WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE WINNER. VERY NICE PIECE OF CIVIL WAR HISTORY FROM ONE OF THE UNION ARMIES MOST FAMOUS UNITS! Really, with the plastic bit on it and everything? I might believe he bought it after the war, but the first corncob pipe factory didn’t exist until the 1870s, and that is a late century or early 1900s model pipe. Sorry
