Jones ran United States Sutler Store at 45 Cabot Street in Newport, Kentucky from at least 1867 to 1869, though it is still not know what military unit he may have been associated with during the war, if any. Very rare sutler in Uncirculated condition.

He was the consummate collector and formed by far the finest and most complete collection of these items. He never hesitated to upgrade each piece from the countless number of sutlers he handled as THE dealer in this series for over 20 years. As a result most of his examples are the finest known, many by a considerable margin. While most of the rarities in the series have been placed is advance collections the vast majority of what remains is exceptionally nice for the variety.

We recently had many of these professionally graded by NGC who were nice enough to place them in a special Tanenbaum pedigreed holder (Steve had never submitted any of his Sutler tokens for grading).
