OLD PATRIOTIC US CIVIL WAR SOLDIER PHOTO UNION CASE TINTYPE 1/4 PLATE FLAG EAGLE
ANTIQUE PATRIOTIC US CIVIL WAR IDENTIFIED SOLDIER PHOTO UNION CASE TINTYPE 1/4 PLATE FLAG EAGLE. The photo is a tintype photograph under glass. What looks to be an insignia on his cap is blurred but the remaining photo is very clear. The gold tone framing is very ornate.
The Gutta Percha patriotic Union case is highly decorated with a Civil War motif and is very ornate. Both sides of the case are decorated with the same motif. There is some dirt and grayish color buildup on the front and back of the case but should clean-up well if the new owner decides to do so. The case also has three chips along the edge of the back side of the frame and a small crack that is pictured in the photographs provided.
One hinge pin on the case is missing and was replaced with a small piece of wire and one can tell it has been in place for many years. The decorated case measures approximately 4 3/4 X 3 7/8 X 3/4 inches and opens nicely. Opposite of the photo is a decorative padding. The gilt coloreds frame measures approximately 3 1/8 X 4 1/4 inches and, I believe, is the size of a 1/4 plate photo. When the photo and frame is separated from the case frame there is a name written on the advertisement in pencil. I would think this would be the name of the individual.
