1/6 Plate Civil War Colorized Tintype Picture of Soldier with Letter (#2755)
This is an Antique Civil War Colorized Tintype Picture with written letter. This wonderful piece of history features a Civil War soldier. I believe he is James J. Thompson, Private of the Curry Guards, according to the letter that accompanies the photo.
The photo has colorized details on jacket and pants. The binding is broken on the frame and only attaches at the hinge. The frame box measures 3ΒΌ" x 3-3/4".
The gold tone frame matte has some corrosion. The hand written note by James J. Thompson is very fragile and hard to read.Someone has done their best to translate it. He mentions two officers, Hunley and Bullock.
Private of the Curry Guards. I left home on the 21st of August, 1861, and was mustered into???? At Montgomery on the 26th. I left there for Auburn on (August) the 27th, 1861. (From) there to Camp Johnson.
