Bible - Civil War Soldier died in Libby Prison. Skinner - 22nd Wisconsin Col.
A fantastic piece of Civil War history! This unique pocket Bible, bound in original leather with stamped design to the spine and boards, and a working brass swing clasp, as shown, remains in worn but decent shape- especially for the life it has seen. According to the inscriptions, this little guy was carried in the Civil War by Theron Y Skinner of the 22nd Wisconsin Volunteers, Company I, who was taken prisoner, and died a few years following the War from a disease contracted while in Libby Prison.
Theron has noted Libby two times within with a later notation by family noting his death in 1870 from Libby on the front fly (this can be confirmed with research online). There is also a sticker on the cover noting Libby.
