Original 1860's Civil War to 1870's Indian Wars tintype of a soldier wearing a kepi. He is standing with his percussion rifle & a canteen at his side.
He has a backpack with bedroll on his back supported by straps across his chest. The soldier is standing outside in front of a brick structure.
It is certainly a marvelous pose which very clearly shows all of these interesting details. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than us as to dating this by the details shown can pin down the photo as to whether this is Civil War or Indian Wars era. There are number of smooth bends of little consequence as is usual for tintypes. There are three tiny pinhead sized bumps on the background & there are a few small areas of slight surface wear. The photo measures 3 7/8 inches tall by 2 3/8 inches wide. This fascinating tintype turned up many years ago in Lancaster, Pa. The reference number for this item is #9847. Is an estimate and the actual cost may differ.
