1863 Civil War Letter Soldier Taking Prisoner by John Mosbys Guerrillas. This is a great rare 6 page letter from Sherborne, Massachusetts to New Orleans to Albert Blanchard from his wife, while he was serving with the 41st Massachusetts as the doctor/surgeon. It is from 1863 and has great content and says in part. Thomas Taber is taken prisoner by Mosbys guerrillas, he was detailed as Provost Guard for a train, he was in the rear with others.
Poor Abbie feels almost as if she never should see him again. That band of men have such brutal manners no one knows what they will do. It affected my very much indeed last week when I heard of it. Such things do more than they used too. May the day be near when this war shall cease when families will be united again.
How good the Presidents message is how can anyone find fault with it so earnest, so clear, so affectionate. I send this piece rather from the Richmond Whig its interesting and isnt it sharp? In one paper it was rebel news, it say they drove 200 yank cavalry into PH and killed 13, O when I can have letters how much more contented I shall be.
