1863 Civil War Letter Surgeon Soldier Leg Shot Off Battle of Chickamauga. This is a great rare 4 page letter written to Albert Blanchard while a surgeon in the Civil War for the 41st Massachusetts. It is from 1863 and is in good condition. Mr Halls son Henry who has been in the army from he commencement of the war has had his leg shot off in the Battle of Chickamauga, Mr Hall has gone to Tennessee to see him, I sincerely hope he may do well for he has been so brave and enthusiastic all through and he has suffered many hardships as all soldiers do, though some more than others. Hannah Hawks your old acquaintance is nurse int he hospital at Washington and is very much liked.
She is a great favorite with the men and is very successful in her nursing. Paul was very well through his term of service and was a good soldier young as he was being jolly when he got enough to eat and going without? He was 18 the spring before he went and I thought for a boy of that agate halt in the middle of a cornfield with the bullets flying round them like hail and unsling their knapsacks without flinching was pretty brave for the little boys of the 44th this was at the battle of Goldsboro of the seize of Washington they also had rather a tough time having nothing but hard tack and coffee and not enough of that.
