Published in 1863 this original, hand colored, Currrier & Ives Print is titled, The Soldier Memorial. On the left is a lady in black morning over a large grave stone. In the background are Union soldiers marching.
Measuring 12" wide by 16 ½" long this original Currier & Ives is in very good original condition with only a light water stain along the bottom. It comes under early thin glass in its original 15 ½" by 20" Walnut Frame.
The original wood backboards are missing, but everything else is original. This Civil War Memoriam is for Corporal Stillman G.
Stanley, of the Maine 14. He was born in 1833 and came from Little Cranberry Island in Hancock Maine.
He was stationed in Mississippi on Ships Island, where he contracted Typhoid Fever and died June 16, 1863. He says that there are 7,000 soldiers bivouacked on the island. The letter is dated March and he died 3 months later.
