Here is a wonderful piece of Civil War history fresh to the market from a Maine estate. A brass locket holding the photo of a soldier wearing a kepi, tie and his collar up and beard. The piece measures about one inch and 1/4 across.
There are age marks on the case as seen in the quality photos. The note, which is on one side, and the photo on the other both have a piece of glass in good condition over them. The note is on lined paper and is partially legible, it reads.
Sargent in The Co A of (illegible) Maine. Reg(illegible) over 100 (illegible) 1863. The first name may not be William, but the family has confirmed his last name was Sargent. The cover on one side of the case has come loose and has separated. There are no missing parts however.
The working side opens and closes smoothly. Offered with a low starting price and no reserve.
