Note inside case identifies the soldier as James Billig and the history of Camp Copeland identifies him a being a Private, 57th Pa. The note with stains from the two locks of his hair (note his full head of hair in the photo) is a little hard to read but says This picture was taken Mar.

James Billig enlisted in the army Feb. 28,1864 & Died at Camp Copeland March, 27 1864.....On the back of the note it list his children and when they were born and one child died at a few months old..... The March 30,1864 The Daily Post reported There has been five deaths at Camp Copeland since Saturday March 27,1864 James I.
