A rare civil war token (Rulau B-365) which is also a great piece of Washingtonia, this is the proverbial piece (literally) found in a letter box in an old estate where it sat undisturbed for at least 7 decades, as the original patina suggests! PCGS has certified only 2 of these in all grades, the highest a choice unc. The current specimen is quite comparable to the top graded PCGS piece.
From the Springfield, MA Soldier's Fair December 1864; as the estate location was not far from Springfield it is plausible that this Rarity-8 piece was saved by the family since the time of issue.
