3 CDVs, ID'd Hood Fam Handwritten Note By Civil War Soldier XIV Union Army Corps
Three original CDVs, two of a woman, Frances "Frank" Hood (full name, Frances Caroline Hood Corbett), one taken by Alexander Gardner, Washington, D. The other, having a hand cancelled Civil War revenue stamp, taken by Fuller of Madison, Wisconsin. The photo by Fuller has handwritten notes and a signature on the back, "From your Loving Sister Frank", Miss F.

Hood, beneath that, written by her brother Charles Crook Hood, Jr. The third CDV included is of their father, Judge Charles Crook Hood (born 1788), with genealogical info on the back.

From online: On March 5, 1863, troops under the command of Union General Steadman of the 14th Army Corps began constructing what became a massive series of earthworks, located several miles east of Franklin on the hills overlooking Triune, Tennessee. These works consisted of three artillery redoubts on the tops of the highest hills and several miles of interlinking breastworks.

The camps for the more than 10,000 men stationed there were located nearby. I believe Hood survived the war and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. On the date he wrote the note, December 17, 1864, he would've been part of the famous Sherman's March to the Sea, and stationed in Georgia. This Fuller CDV is in good or better antique condition with clipped corners and minor lifting of the image. The Alexander Gardner image is in good antique condition..

The back layer of mount is separating and the bottom 1/4 of the mount is soft, but the image is still complete and in one piece. The CDV of the Judge is in just OK condition...

There is foxing and the layers of the CDV are still there, but the layers are separating and the CDV is soft in areas. Gettysburg rare confederate history genealogy.
