Original early-1860s sixth-plate tintype of a young Civil War Zouave wearing tasseled cap, tinted red. I believe his pants are also tinted blue. Here is a quote from another collector: I believe this Zouave solider to be a member of the 73rd New York Infantry. Part of the Union Army's Excelsior Brigade. The style of jacket and the manner in which the collar of the short is worn over the collar of the jacket is similar to other known images of members of this regiment.

Also, he is wearing an Engine Company Badge similar to those worn by New York City Fire companies. Similar Badges to this were worn by the 11th New York fire Zouaves in 1861. In half of a case that has been hand painted.

Bottom rail is loose but still connected. The tintype seems a shade dark unless you're viewing it in proper indoor lighting or daylight. I've uploaded a couple of cellphone pics.

Taken under my desktop lamp, that should give a fair idea of what it looks like.. Overall very good antique condition. With some light mat abrasions and a couple of light. Bends that I can see on the back, but not on the. The OUTSIDE of the glass has some residue.

Looks like hard dried glue, that does not affect. The image in any way.
