Antique Vintage 1800's Family Photo Album with Civil War Era Union Soldiers
It includes 61 photographs, including 7 that contain men in their Union uniforms. The photos range from babies to the elderly.
Most are on card stock, but there are a few tintypes, some colored. Many have captions below them. There are also 29 cards from the 1860's that depict goddesses, cartoons, and cherub children.
Many cards have printed captions at their base. Example: Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1863, by H. Horton, in the Clerk's office of the District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Photo and Pub by J. One I pulled out had a New York City photo studio address printed on the back.Perhaps they were given out as advertisements at photo studios as a business card? I'm not an expert- input would be appreciated. The album itself is leather and has a brass clasp. The binding itself is long gone and the front and back are held on with heavy tape.
The thick cardboard pages are gilded. Weighs 5 lbs, 7 oz. Measures 10-3/4" X 8-1/2" X 2-1/4. Please see my other auctions for more antiques and collectibles.
