Ca 1860's CIVIL WAR 1/4 SIZE PLATE TINTYPE ARMED UNION SOLDIERS w/PARTIAL ID. Offered is a Civil War 1/4 plate size (touch smaller at 2 5/8" x 4") tintype of armed Union Soldiers. The soldier to the left has heavy ethnic facial features.

There is period identification etched on the back of the plate that I've not been able to decipher. This one comes without a case, preserver, glass, or mat.

Some surface wear and bends to the plate. Nothing to cause emulsion loss. Touch of rust on verso in a few spots.

Please note the following information from another collector. I believe I have figured out who one of your soldiers is.

The etching on the back of the tintype that I can read says, P W Kenyon - Downs, Ka(Kansas). I think the soldier on the right is Potter W. Kenyon, company E, 118th New York Infantry. After the war, Kenyon lived in Osbourne County, Kansas, in or near Downs. He was a member or GAR Post #232 in Downs.
