Incorrectly described as an ambrotype, when it is actually printed on metal, a tintype. The tintype is of a seated Civil Soldier with his young wife at his side. The soldier appears to be wearing a large ribbon on his chest, and the young lady is wearing black lace gloves. It makes me think it is a mourning photograph, possibly for the president (only my speculation).
The image is in a half case, and the glass on the front is broken as shown. Measures 2 3/4" x 3 1/4". As for the album, there is at lease one cdv of a soldier, with lots of other cdv's of men, women, and children. A total of 28 images are in the album, and I noted that two of the visible backs mentioned an Illinois and Ohio photography studio.
I did not take any of the pictures out of their holders in fear of damaging the book. The album is complete with it's covers, but the spine has pulled away from the leather binding. Luckily, the metal clasps keeps the collection together. Due to condition, no value should be placed on the album itself.
