Moses Noyes Arnold, an Abington, Massachusetts native rose from the ranks to Captain, G Company, 12th Massachusetts Volunteers, a notable unit that saw heavy fighting in the Battle of Antietam, 2nd Manassas & Gettysburg & the Wilderness. Arnold was seriously wounded in the Cornfield Fight at Antietam, but finished the war in active service. Postwar, Arnold was a GAR Post Commander and established the Veterans Memorial Monument at Abington. A skilled shoe maker before the War, postwar he established a successful shoemaking factory at Abington. He hears Abbie has seen the Hutecheson Singers perform and asks of friends.
