An Original group of 5 Civil War letters written by family members to Amaziah Foss and his 3 brothers all serving with Company F, 13th New Hampshire, all with October- December 1862 dates. Sister Sarah Foss has sent them a box of food, stockings, gloves & books, also reports a neighbor has stolen all their threshing tools and they are seeking to prosecute him, and a friend has been thrown from a horse and is in very bad condition. Finally Mary wants a souvenir from Virginia.
The letters average 8 x 5 ink, approx, a total 13 pages for the 5. The Dec 14 Letter from Sister Sarah Ross has reverse in ink "Amaziah J Foss Co F 13th NHV Washington, DC". There were 4 Foss brothers from Strafford, NH- all served together in F Company, 13th New Hampshire and 2 died in the War- Amaziah died of wounds at New Providence Church, May 1863, and George of disease.Brothers Lemuel and Ira lived to serve to War's End.
