Fowler Steele and his wife and Lizzie lived Manitowac Rapids, Manitowac County, Wisconsin when he enlisted with the 27th Wisconsin Volunteers in Sept, 1864. The Affidavit is signed by Lizzie at Manitowac November 29, 1864, 2 month after he enlisted, and is signed by Lizzie in front of the town Notary Public.

The 8 x 3 ptd/ink Affidavit bears the US Revenue stamp, cancelled Dec 28, 1864. Comes w service info for Fowler Steele who is listed as wounded at the fight for Spanish Fort, Alabama, March 28, 1865.

The battle for Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely, Mobile, Alabama was the last major battle of the Civil War. Minor edge wear, age stains, Overall VG.

Comes w service info for Private Steele. This is one of the few Soldier Wife certificates I have seen.
