4th Ohio letter on Music lettersheet of a 4th Ohio Soldier. Name is in the lower part of the printed side, but cannot make it out though its clear that he is in the 4th Ohio Vols.

Headed up Romney Camp Keys. On the night of the 1st at 11 o'clock the 4th Ohio, 5th Ohio, 8th Ohio with a demonstration of artillery went out to take Blue Gap 11 miles distant from this place.

We perfectly surprised taking their pickets before they reached camp and I believe we could have taken those...... Before we reached their camp they had breastworks on this side of the mountain and fought pretty well but we were not to be fooled after action of 25 minutes they fled... Left all their camp equipment and two killed.... And much more to be deciphered. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Militaria\Civil War (1861-65)\Original Period Items\Correspondence, Mail".
