Civil War 76th Zouave Soldier's Eagle Discharge, Pension Papers
FOGLE enlisted on August 26, 1863 as a Private. He was a member of the 76th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, also known as the Keystone Zouaves, a Union Army infantry regiment that served in the Civil War from October 18, 1861, to July 18, 1865. Offered here is an assemblage of papers, four documents, relating to his discharge and failed attempt to secure a raise in his pension, including Fogle's Eagle Discharge, dated August 26th, 1865, which notes on the verso that he was wounded on August 16th, 1864, near Deep Bottom, indicating the Second Battle of Deep Bottom. Other research indicates he was wounded on July 10, 1864.

It's possible he was wounded twice. In a second document from the Solicitors of Claims' office, the attorney states that Fogle was wounded in from a gunshot in the shoulder and arm. A third letter from Milo Stevens, a War Claim Attorney, states that Fogle needs to provide more information if he wishes to appeal the denial.

The 76th was organized in Harrisburg, PA, and fought in Virginia and the Carolinas. Was engaged in the battles of Secessionville, Pocotaligo, Cold Harbor the Crater, Chaffin's Farm, Fair Oaks & Darbytown Road, Fort Fisher, Wilmington, Second Battle of Fort Wagner and Charleston Harbor, Deep Bottom, Fort Fisher. Documents have expected wear and toning. Our goal is to please every customer.
