Brothers George and James Elliott were sons of a Colt Armory worker, enlisted for the War in 1861 and saw 3 years of action with the First Connecticut Heavy Artillery, from the 1862 Richmond campaign & Frederickburg to Petersburg and finally the Assault on Fort Stedman and the Appomattox Campaign. Regarding Father's "Chest and Tools", to leave them with Mr Bidwell, an honest man, if neither he nor James survive the War she may sell them as she wishes. He reports he has visited Washington- the Smithsonian Institute, the House of Representatives in session and Senate, admired the Capitol's paintings and statuary and visited a cousin. He ends the letter since "Today is Muster Day". Fort Blenker was built at Arlington In 1862 to protect the approaches along Four Mile Run to the City of Arlington, Virginia, along what is now Route 7, near Fort Reynolds Park.
