This has always been a very interesting image that I have had in my collection for several years. I bought it from a gentleman that bought it from an Alabama family.
The photo is on tin and measures 3.25x2 inches. Features a young black man with zero expression. He appears to be resting an arm on a puffed table with fringe. He is wearing a jacket with a row of buttons down the center. Towards the bottom of his shirt there is a horizontal cloth that is separate from the jacket. Appears to resemble a Cumber-bun today.
Very similar to Zouave garb. The theories are endless on this image. The item "Civil War Era Tintype African American Slave Zouave Soldier 1800s Alabama" is in sale since Tuesday, December 06, 2016.
