CIVIL War Massachusetts Soldier Letter From'joe And Brothers Camp Wilson Va
An original Civil War soldier letter from "Joe", one of 3 brothers who served together, written at Camp Wilson (named for Colonel Henry Wilson, 22nd Mass Infantry), Halls Hill, Virginia, Jan 2, to sister Susie- the men are celebrating New Years, firing all night, the band played at midnight, the Irish 9th, Colonel Cass & other camps have cedar & evergreens decorations, gets the Lowell newspaper, mentions brothers Cliff and Fred, received a letter from comrade Charles Gould, the writer is darning socks with his new housewife, and got new boots, his issued ones has worn out, & includes a small drawing of his boot sole. 4pp ink, 8 x 5. Age stains, edge wear, Overall VG. I believe the writer could be identified as he and brothers served with either the 18th or 22nd Mass, both at Camp Wilson in January 1862.
