New London was an important seaport and the location of the War Office established by Connecticut Civil War Governor William Buckingham, a New London native. An Original Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Monument Dedication Ribbon worn by a fireman of the Konomoc Hose Company at the "Dedication Soldiers & Sailors Monument, May 6th, 1896" on the 250th Anniversary of the founding of New London, Conn.. 7 white/black silk w illus of an Indian Chief. Stains, age darkened, wear to the ends, Overall Good.
