Civil War Peek-A-Boo Hard Case Image of 1st Lt & Female RARE Less than 50 Known

Civil War cased image of 1st Lt and wife or girlfriend, called a Peek-A-Boo image, quite rare according to Cliff Krianik, a well known dealer and collector of 19th century photography. A large oval cutout shows woman without opening case showing both woman and soldier side by side. A piece of glass is positioned in front of cutout. The images of lady, in different clothing, may or may not have been taken at different times although likely.

These images are tintypes back to back in peek a boo side of case. This union case was done by Peck and Halverson, a 9th plate, W.

B, Eastman's Ambrotype, again shows lady and Union officer. The peek a boo image of the lady is different. Very slight bend on right side of officer near the clasp, very very minor and can be straightened. Case appears to be in perfect condition otherwise. For all Civil War and paper items.
