CIVIL WAR PHOTO AMBROTYPE ARMED SOLDIER UNION ARMY
Nice 6th plate Ambrotype image of a United States Civil War Union infantry soldier with rifle and knife. "US" belt buckle and "E1" cap in image is very clear.

Handsome, armed soldier in a very fine Union uniform. There are some issues with the bottom of the image under the last visible uniform button and on along the right elbow. These areas look worn away and when you look closely you can see the dark backing with white fibers under the glass. Only half the case has survived the years. Back embossing is in nice shape.

Tin protection on front edge has lifted around the edges a bit. Edges, back, of case show wear. Otherwise this is a fantastic image. Ambrotypes are very rare and those images of soldiers with weapons, rarer still.

Please make sure you want this item. Thanks for looking at our listing. We were able to safely remove the photo and what a surprise.

There is a locket of hair and a note that looks to say Preserved to Wife Celia Maloney By Corp. Please see the additional photos. Sorry that should have said Presented to Wife..... Further research shows that Corp. York was from the 1st Wisconsin Regiment can also slightly make out "Wi" in the writing after the words "1st Reg".

Entered the war as a Corporal and left as a Sergeant according to some Civil War records we found online.
