Civil War Soldier and Wife Ambrotype Antique Photographic Image RARE! This is an original period 1860's Civil War era ambrotype photographic image of a soldier and his wife. The ambrotype glass is framed in a brass frame, and image is still clean.

The dimensions are 7cm x 8.4cm (2.75" x 3.4"). The image appears to have been touched-up by the photographer to apply gold color to the soldiers buttons and lapel and to the woman's jewelry. This had to be done at the time of developing because the addition is between painted developing paste and under the glass.

There are a few places where the paint on the reverse of the glass has rubbed off. This does not affect the image quality very much, and can be repaired. The image is clean, and glass is intact.
