Civil War soldier letter, George A Spencer 7th Rhode Island Vol Infantry, Camp near Petersburg Va Aug 28, 1864 3 pages with fabulous soldier art to his parent, got a nice bible, first rate, building a fort the past week, it mounts 7 guns (see soldier art), got into a hornets nest last night, got stung in 4 places, more content. Spencer fancied himself as an artist as he worked for his father in an engraving business in Bristol Rhode Island. Very fine and fabulous artwork. Residence Bristol RI; Enlisted on 8/16/1862 as a Private.

On 9/15/1862 he mustered into "I" Co. He was Mustered Out on 6/9/1865 (Estimated day of muster in) He was listed as: Missing 12/13/1862 Fredericksburg, VA Other Information: born in Smithfield, RI Member of GAR Post # 145 William A.
