Civil War Soldier Ltr Seely Conover 115th NY POW Camp Parole Annapolis 12 28 64
What I learned from prisoners that they were well treated in VA and FLA, treated well in villages where they fell upon citizens but in places like Andersonville, Millen, Richmond and Belle Island, they suffered woefully but the fellow who died received kind treatment while living, news of his lonliness, filthy and living poor, dishes so nasty he used fingers in place of knives and forks, but we are exchanged, (was a formed POW), much news of religious meetings, how friend Frank found peace with God, dislikes some worship services, does not like shouts, groans and cries from some worshipers, calls them howling dervishes. Bemoans Winnie and how he was taken in battle, the last time I saw Winnie was once I glanced down the line of battle and near the sulphur smoke near the colors, Winnie was bravely doing his duty, that was the last and the last I saw of Frank was a similar occasion with the missiles of death and hissing around us, I remember his face as calm as in life, I shook and called him by name, Frank Frank, shall I never see you move, much religious detail, then Seely had a ball "extracted from my neck". Much more excellent content in this 4 big 8x10 pages and overall very fine. He write upside down and between lines on bottom of last page that is quite easy to read, he signs in full Seely Conover.

Residence was not listed; 21 years old. Enlisted on 8/7/1862 at Canajoharie, NY as a Private. On 8/11/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. He was Mustered Out on 6/17/1865 at Raleigh, NC.
