An original letter from Captain Day as Commander, "K Company, 11th Regt IC" (Invalid Corp aka the Veteran Reserve Corp), at Douglas Hospital, March 19, 1864 to Major Elias Merrill: 14 of his men have been sent to Cliffbourne Barracks for return to their regiments; many of them are indebted to our Hospital sutler and refuse to pay him. The bearer of this letter is the son of the sutler , will you please inform him how he is to proceed to get his dues? " The 1p 8 x 1" ink letter has a pencil note from Merrill in response.
