Civil war soldier on horse tintype

1/4 plate outdoor view of a Civil War soldier on his horse. Look at the length of that sword! There is surface wear to the image and bends throughout. Housed in a 1/2 leather case. Inside the case there is some writing that I have scanned for you to try and figure out. I think it says something about giving Robert E.
