Volume 1 in general deals with Mr. Woods conscription into the Confederate army and his loyalty to the union of the states. He records his feelings and emotions while in Mobile in a most vivid manner.
Although in the southern army he lets others know of his loyaltys and is accused of trying to entice others to his view. Volume 2 is the story of his courts martial for mutiny, his unexpected conviction, and his sentencing to death. He is held in prison in Atlanta Georgia awaiting execution by firing squad. Volume 3 concerns situations as the war winds down, and the Confederate army becomes desperate.
Woods is released from prison, along with many others and put back in the war. He is under the command of General Bragg in the generals various encounters with General Rosecrans of the union army in and around middle Tennessee. Specific battles written of are Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; the battles of Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge and others near Chattanooga, Tennessee; and battles in and around Tullahoma, Tennessee. The writing is beautiful script and in most places quite legible.
