Civil War felt Slouch Hat - Eugene S. Golden 113th / 120th Illinois. There is a paper label that came in the hat marked' E.
GOLDEN 1/12/64 I 113 ILL'. It is as it was found and I assume all is original but. There is sweat mark wear to the inside and a number of holes throughout. Still fairly pliable, but does have age and is dirty. You can see where the braid used to go around the hat, but is no longer there.
What little research I did I know the regiment was formed near Chicago and saw various skirmishes and battles including Champion Hill & Vicksburg. Looks like Eugene was in both the 113th and 120th Illinois Company I.
