Great color for time period. Civil War Union Soldier, identified half plate with discharge document for amputee. Veteran of the 93rd regiment of New York Volunteers and was wounded in May of 1864 in the battle of North Anna Virginia.
He was shot in the knee and then had to have his leg amputated as described. Tintype measures 6" x 7 1/2". He is shown holding his musket and has cross strap with cannon and tents in the background. The discharge paper has all the data to make this a historical grouping. His name was Asa Clark Bentley and these items had kept in the family until recently. Comes with this glass top display case.
