Confederate soldier Civil War 6th plate tintype ex-Herb Peck collection
Tintype of Confederate soldier - pleated hunting shirt and bee-hive style hat. Sixth-plate tintype from the estate of the late Herb Peck, Jr. This is a studio portrait of what I believe to be a Confederate volunteer circa 1861 who wears a pleated hunting shirt and has a beehive-style slouch hat propped on one of his crossed knees. There appears to be a cockade of some sort pinned to one side of the crown of this hat. Hunting shirts in this style were typically worn by Confederates from Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina, but I have no idea where this tintype originated.
It comes in full wood & pressed paper case with carefully repaired hinge. Please look carefully at scans which give an accurate representation of how the tintype looks. The item "Confederate soldier Civil War 6th plate tintype ex-Herb Peck collection" is in sale since Monday, August 31, 2015.
