Daguerreotype Mexican American War Soldier & CIVIL War Soldier Ambrotype Group
A 1/6th plate Daguerreotype showing a young man wearing a Mexican-American War Cap, and a double 9th plate Ambrotype showing a young couple, each holding a bouquet of flowers. We believe the young man in the ambrotype may be wearing a Civil War uniform, or a nice suit for his wedding? We were able to trace all of the family members to this county. Robert and Helen Cleland moved to Warren County Illinois. There were several pieces of paper identifying the family, but someone had taken them out of the all of the cases. We tried, but were not able to positively identify any of them. We do believe the ambrotypes, show Robert and Helen Cleland. They were living in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois at the time. There was also an identification for Alexander McConnell? Uncle Samuel Hake, and Samuel Cleland. It is possible that someone may be able to identify the man in the daguerreotype as he was probably a soldier in the Mexican American War. Condition: The daguerreotype has partial seals, and is in excellent condition. The Ambrotypes are Good, with a chip on the small case.
