A nice pair of sixth plate tintypes in a full thermoplastic case. The soldier is a young Union private who looks even younger in that oversized frock coat, with his hand peeking out of the cuff and the coat extending down to his knees. He is armed with a Springfield rifle, with a socket bayonet hanging from his belt. The photographer applied gold tint to his belt buckle.
Opposite the soldier is a tintype of a young mother and child. Both the reverse of the tintype and the interior of the case identify her as Rhoda Kimball of Georgetown. There is no identification on the soldier.
The images are in matching mats and preservers, and come housed in a full thermoplastic case. Please see my other items for more interesting and original Civil War pieces.
