Here is a great large Civil War photo of soldiers enjoying a relaxing moment drinking and smoking their pipes. An important looking officer is positioned center/rear. A black man stands to the far right holding a tray. A soldier to the left of center/rear seems to be holding a pen or paintbrush to the cheek of another man who is turned away from him. A gag of some sort? Photo measures roughly 7 1/4" x 5 1/2", trimmed in an oval, and mounted to period card stock (9 1/2" x 8"). The photo comes out of a collection of Civil War items once owned by a Civil War veteran who served in the 7th regiment NYC artillery, hence my feeling that this photo was taken in New York City.
