Dickie, a Scottish emigrant and farmer of Burnside, Lapeer Co, Michigan, America, saw action with Union forces under General Sherman from summer 1862 until summer 1865, and provides matter-of-fact, but compelling eye-witness testimony of the Battles of Chattanooga and Atlanta. Some of the content relating to setting up his farmstead.
