Cased Tintype or Ambrotype image of a Civil War Union Soldier, a Private seated in frock coat uniform and trousers, ca. This is a Sixth Plate size with hand-coloring in the cheeks and gold gilding on the buttons. Red velvet liner with central peafowl motif; oval brass mat and embossed preserver. The Thermoplastic Union Case case is chocolate brown with Geometric Scrolls in high relief. The reverse case is identical.

The original paper label is also present beneath the image. Literature: Krainik's Union Cases, 1988 ed.

Condition: Very Good to Excellent overall. Typical edge and corner wear on the case, as shown. The interior velvet liner shows light wear and some minor fading. Hinges and clasp are original, tight and in excellent working order.

The image is slightly off-center but in very good condition; quite clear with very crisp details. The brass preserver has some areas of tarnish. Overall, an exceptional example that will not disappoint; highly-appropriate for any Civil War and/or Union Case collector.
