OUTSTANDING Full Standing CDV of 14th Brooklyn 14th N. Y. S. M. Soldier Civil War

BEAUTIFUL full-standing Image of an unidentified member of the Legendary Fighting 14th Brooklyn Regiment!! This man wears the famous distinctive Quasi-Zouave Chasseur uniform of the regiment, consisting of a blue skirted jacket trimmed with Red chevron and flashings. The Jacket is closed down the center of the chest with a row of brass ball buttons with a red vest. The outer edge of the jacket enclosure is also adorned with brass ball buttons. He wears the famous red trousers cut in the french-chasseur pattern known to have been treasured by men in the regiment.

Members of the 14th Brooklyn refused to be found dead on the battlefield without their red trousers on. This man also wears the distinctive red and blue cap of the regiment complete with numeral 14 and Company Letter D above the numeral. The jacket is also complete with the red shoulder knots known to have been used by the regiment. The 14th Brooklyn were known to have used white linen leggings or gaiters but photographic evidence proves they used a number of different styles available at the time including tarred canvas and Russet leather leggings as this man wears. The 14th Brooklyn participated or fought in almost every major engagement in the eastern theater of the Civil War including 1st and 2nd Manassas (Bull Run) as well as Antietam etc.

As part of the Union Army of the Potomac's First Corps - First Division, they were among the very first infantry regiments to arrive on the field on July 1st 1863 and engage Confederates at the battle of Gettysburg and sustained very heavy losses. The 14th Brooklyn was also one of only two union army regiments to have been engaged during all three days of the battle of Gettysburg. In 1864 they were merged with the 5th Corps and members of the 14th Brooklyn who still had terms of enlistment to serve were transferred to the 5th New York Veteran Volunteers Duryee's Zouaves.
