Almost impossible to find in such condition, and a true historic antique and desirable piece of military memmoribilia. You can see all the details in the accompanying photos, and also the crossed cannons on the Shako Cap, with this officers unit number above (see the closeup). I make the numbers out to be 34. Further research may indicate the individual history of that unit. Dating this item: Since Ambrotypes weren't invented and patented until 1854, it is very easy to date this superb example as ca beginning possibly in 1855, showing the earlier style garb utilizing the tall "SHAKO" with Horse Hair "Plume". That style in military uniforms for officers prevailed until about 1861. Hence, this historic photograph is ca 1855 to 1861. Just see pictures / You collectors will appreciate this find. Case overall measurements are 3 5/8" tall by 3 1/4" width. Full Image Size (the glass) is 3 1/4" by 2 3/4". A perfect addition to any serious Military or Historic Photography Collection.
